Weekly medical publication, Pulse released an article today claiming that the GPC has warned that the government's reconfiguration of the health service could threaten traditional general practice if GPs are not given the tools and support needed for commissioning.

Yesterday, GPC Chair, Dr Laurence Buckman, wrote a letter to GP members recognising that the White Paper is 'clearly a potentially huge opportunity for GPs', but also said that it could be a major threat to the current form of 'general practice and even to the NHS as a public service'.

Dr Buckman added that it was crucial to keep efficient NHS managers in the service and said that the GPC would prefer GPs to 'work constructively with them rather than turning ot external support'.

The article is another to add to the pile of gorwing concerns about the White Paper's ramifications on general practice and the health service as a whole.
