Authorities go into deficit to sustain directly-managed GP practices

It is interesting that when a CCG or health board takes on responsibility for managing a GP Practice, it generally does not work out financially.  Yet independently run practices (no matter what size) seem to work well.  The currently skewed health economy which revolves around the same GP’s providing more expensive locum sessions means that often the costs of just servicing such contracts becomes almost impossible.  However, all practices have to compete in this market.
